GW Health and Wellness Center 202-994-1522 The Annette and Theodore Lerner Family Health and Wellness Center is a state-of-the-art fitness facility, located at the northwest corner of 23rd and G Streets. The Center hosts a wide variety of fitness and instructional classes, walk-in recreation, and sport club, intramural, and wellness programs and services. All registered students (graduate and undergraduate) are automatically assessed a Health and Wellness Center fee on a semester basis, which entitles membership in the facility. The International Services Office (ISO), located at 2029 K Street, NW, 2nd Floor, provides assistance to international students, research scholars, and faculty at The George Washington University. The ISO offers orientation programs for incoming students each fall and spring; provides advising on a broad range of social, cultural, legal, and academic concerns; offers social and cultural programs with international themes; and serves as a resource about international issues and concerns for the GW community. Multicultural Student Services Center 202-994-7010 The Multicultural Student Services Center, 2127 G Street, N.W., provides information, cultural activities, academic and personal mentoring, leadership and community involvement opportunities for GW students,and particularly for ethnically diverse students. Through the Center, MSSC strives to foster a sense of community for students of color, enhance the multicultural ideals of cultural heritage and racial understanding, assists the university with its efforts to recruit, retain, and graduate students as well as to diversify and promote GW's multicultural community. The Center provides professional and peer counseling, course advising, tutorial referral services, and campus and community mentoring programs. The staff is available to address students' academic and personal concerns. The Center houses the Diversity Program Clearinghouse, as well as a resource room with reference books, cultural displays, and an information center for notices on upcoming events. The Center also oversees a number of preparatory and pre-college programs for junior and high school students. Parking Services 202-994-7275 To park at the University's parking facilities and participate in the reduced parking rate program you must display a parking decal on your vehicle at all times. To obtain a parking decal, a student must present a copy of his or her class schedule/statement, a validated GWorld photo ID card, and a valid vehicle registration card. Vehicles must be registered in your name or your family's name. Parking decals may be obtained at the Parking Office, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Violators of student parking rules and regulations are subject to fines and/or loss of parking privileges. A commuter decal lets you pay with prepaid parking tickets, which are sold at the Ticketmaster outlet, located on the second floor of the Marvin Center. Cash is not acceptable at the parking facilities in place of tickets. The Charles E. Smith Center, 22nd and G Streets, NW, is a multipurpose athletic and recreational facility open to students upon presentation of a valid GWorld photo ID card. Students may check out recreational equipment free of charge and have access to racquetball/handball and squash courts, circuit training and free-weight rooms, swimming pool, basketball courts, and outdoor tennis courts. Locks and towels are available for a nominal fee. The Smith Center is the Colonials home facility for intercollegiate basketball (men and women), women's gymnastics, swimming and diving (men and women), water polo (men and women), and women's volleyball. Summer activities at the Center include recreational sports programs sponsored by the Department of Athletics or the Student Activities Center, and camps and clinics for youth in various sports conducted by members of the GW coaching staff. Summer and Conference Housing manages summer conference and housing arrangements for external university audiences and summer sessions undergraduate students. GW students residing on campus during the upcoming fall semester may be assigned to their fall assignment at the beginning of the summer if possible. Housing for summer school students is offered during summer sessions in late May 2007 through early August 2007. University Counseling Center 202-994-5300 The University Counseling Center fosters personal growth and development and helps students with personal, career, and academic problems that may interfere with their educational goals. Services include crisis intervention; academic skills workshops; short-term group and individual counseling for personal problems, such as academic pressures and relationship, family, and self-esteem issues; educational/vocational counseling and testing to help students choose a major and career options; consultation and training programs for peer educators and for faculty and staff who work closely with students; and referral services for specialized or ongoing therapy. During the summer months, the Center provides services on weekdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. GW students may call to schedule an initial interview.
