Admissions

Visiting Students – Non-Degree Admission

The George Washington University expects all applicants for non-degree status to submit their application online. The online system maintains your confidentiality through the assignment of a personal identification number. It also allows you to complete the application at your convenience.

An application fee of $25, payable by credit card (MasterCard/ Visa), is due at the time of online application. Applicants should apply as early as possible and before the semester begins to avoid any potential late registration fees. Questions about the online application process should be referred to:
Office of University Students
801 22nd Street NW
Phillips Hall, Suite 411
Washington, DC 20052
202-994-1972 (tel)
202-994-6683 (fax)
ous@gwu.edu

You can complete your application in one sitting. Note that it is not necessary for non-degree applicants to include references, test scores, and transcripts. You will be notified via e-mail of your admission within two business days. At that time, you will be assigned a GW ID number or sent notice of your old ID number. You must use the GW ID number to register for classes.

Please visit www.gwu.edu/~ous and click on “Step One: Application” to locate the online application.

Visiting students should check with their home institution regarding the transferability of credits for online courses before registering.

School Without Walls and Center for Talented Youth students should contact their program coordinator and follow the procedures and deadlines for their respective programs.

Secondary school applicants must contact Thaddisa Fulwood, Assistant Director for Undergraduate Admissions, and complete the paper version of the application.

For those unable to apply online:

Continuing GW Students

All GW students in good standing who have registered for courses on campus during the 2007 spring semester (except those admitted for one semester only) may register for 2007 summer sessions without special application. Follow the registration instructions.

New Degree-Seeking Students

Follow application guidelines published for the school and department of their choice. Students should be aware of published application deadlines for entry in the summer.

International Students (Degree and Non-Degree)

GW is home to more than 2,400 international students from over 120 countries. International students enrich our community by bringing their global perspectives into GW classrooms and activities. Apply online or fill out a hardcopy application at www.gwu.edu/~ous. Deadlines apply.

Prospective graduate students should consult the department of their proposed major field. Questions about services provided to international students may be directed to the International Services Office at 202-296-5254.

Non-immigrants who wish to attend GW for the summer only may do so if they are in a valid legal status which allows them to pursue nondegree study. Students in F-1 or J-1 status from other schools may attend GW for the summer provided that they intend to return to their I-20/IAP-66-issuing program after completion of their summer courses (documentation is required). GW does not generally issue I-20 or IAP-66 forms for summer school students. Non-degree visiting foreign students should contact the Office of University Students at 202-994-1972.
